Prerequisites and co-requisites
To successfully complete the course, students are required to have prior knowledge of such courses as “Pedagogy”, “Ukrainian language”, “Ukrainian literature”, “Psychology”, “A foreign language”, “Methods of teaching Ukrainian”, “Methods of teaching Ukrainian literature”, “Methods of teaching foreign languages”. Students are also expected to know approaches, methods, and principles of teaching languages and literature in secondary school; psychological characteristics of secondary school students; state policy in special needs education. Students are required to possess the ability to use methods and techniques in various forms of instruction; develop sets of exercises and tasks for students to master different aspects of Ukrainian and foreign languages; design lessons with the application of tools offered by multiple teaching technologies; have a grasp of literature on language pedagogy; efficiently implement the basic concepts of teaching Ukrainian literature in secondary school.
Course content
The course aims to develop students’ ability and readiness to teach languages and literature in classes inclusive of children with special education, create conditions for the social rehabilitation of children with deviations in psychophysical development, and implement the latest inclusive technologies drawing on the existing international experience. The course comprises one module which focuses on the major concepts, objectives, and principles of instruction in inclusive classes. It also considers ways of modifying the curricula for the Ukrainian language and literature and a foreign language in compliance with the needs and abilities of children with special educational needs. The course ends in a pass/fail test.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course combines such formats of instruction as: lectures and practical sessions, independent and project work. The major activities that engage students and provide evidence to assess their performance are answers at practical sessions, project work, a module test paper, and an end-of-course test paper. For the performance in these activities, a student can score max. 60 and min. 36 points. A detailed description of activities and formative assessment is presented in the course curriculum posted on the official website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.
Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment
A student’s final grade is based on a 100-point grading system. The total score is made up of the scores earned for the performance during the term (max. 100, min. 60 points). The formative assessment considers answers at practical sessions (40 points), a module test paper (25 points), project work (15 points), and an end-of-course test paper (20 points). Pass/fail credit is granted based on the outcomes of the coursework during the term and does not involve any additional assessment events. To succeed in the pass/fail assessment, students are required to gain a passing grade of 60; students fail if the score is below 60.
