1. To know the peculiarities of the perception of Buddhism, its directions and regional varieties. 2. To be able to analyze the ideological development of Buddhist primary sources and important Buddhist studies. 3. Possess elementary skills of scientific research and critical analysis of sources; the use of foreign language professional informative sources on the subject of Buddhism.

The discipline "Buddhism as a religious tradition" is a mandatory discipline for the "Religious Studies" major, which is read in the second semester of the II year of the bachelor's degree. An exposition of issues related to the confessional features of the study of Buddhism, the themes of early Buddhism, and regional varieties of Theravada, Magayana, and Vajrayana is offered. Familiarity with the subject of this course will contribute to a better understanding by students of problems related to history and the present of the Buddhist tradition.

Lectures, seminars, self-study

Examination evaluation takes place in written form. The ticket consists of 3 questions, two of which (at the student's choice) are evaluated on a scale of 20 points, which gives a total of 40 points for the exam. A student is not admitted to the exam if he scored less than 20 points during the semester. To receive an overall positive grade in the discipline, the grade for the exam cannot be less than 24 points. In the event that a student scored less than 24 points on the exam, they are not added to the semester grade (regardless of the number of points obtained during the academic period). The recommended minimum for admission to the exam is 36 points. Thus, the final grade for the discipline (minimum 60, maximum 100 points) consists of the sum of the number of points for the semester (minimum 36, maximum 60 points) and the exam work (minimum 24, maximum 40 points).
