Learning outcomes
PLO 2. To demonstrate an adequate level of mastery of national and foreign languages to perform written and spoken communication, namely in the situations of professional and academic communication; to present the results of their studies in these national and foreign languages. PLO 5. To find optimal ways for effective interaction in the professional community and with representatives of other professional groups at various levels. PLO 6. To use knowledge on expressive, emotive, logical language means and speech techniques in order to achieve an intended pragmatic result and organize successful communication. PLO 16. To use specialized conceptual knowledge in a chosen linguistic field to solve complex tasks and issues, which require updates and integration of knowledge, often under conditions of incomplete or lacking information and contradictory requirements. PLO 19. To detect systemic interlingual differences and take them into account in translation practice.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The program is designed for students who have studied Spanish as their second language during their undergraduate studies. The student have to successfully master the following academic disciplines: “The Second Language and Translation”, “Linguo-regional Studies of the Second Language”. Students should know: phonetic, morphological, syntactic, lexical features of genre styles of the Spanish and Ukrainian languages; principles of language material analysis. Students should be able to: apply linguistic tools in practice. Moreover, the student should have the following skills: linguistic analysis of Spanish and Ukrainian texts.
Course content
The aim of the discipline is to develop the linguistic competence of philologists-translators for whom Spanish is a second working language. The discipline is specialized and is one of the obligatory parts of the educational and professional program. It involves developing high-level oral and written communication skills, understanding unadapted literary and socio-political literature without a dictionary, reading texts without a dictionary, the ability to listen to unadapted texts and dialogues within the studied topics. Teaching and assessment are provided in Spanish and Ukrainian. The program is built on a combination of traditional and communicative methods. The first semester ends with the midpoint evaluation. And the second semester ends with an exam.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Planned learning activities: • tasks performed individually – preparation of presentations; • participation in discussions; • answers in practical classes; • delivery of presentations;
Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment criteria: Midpoint evaluation: oral reports – max.30 points, additions – max. 12 points, participation in discussions – max. 30 points, preparation of presentations – max. 14 points. Delivery of presentations – max. 14 points. The first semester ends with a midpoint evaluations, the maximum score is 100, 30% will be transferred to the second semester. It is taken into account during the final assessment in the second semester. The maximum score in the second semester is 60. The minimum score is 36. The course ends with an exam – 24/40.
