Learning outcomes
PLO 2. To demonstrate an adequate level of mastery of national and foreign languages to perform written and spoken communication, namely in the situations of professional and academic communication; to present the results of their studies in these national and foreign languages. PLO 6. To use knowledge on expressive, emotive, logical language means and speech techniques in order to achieve an intended pragmatic result and organize successful communication. PLO 21. To know the specifics of translator’s work in various fields (textual, media, audiovisual, web-space) and be able to use necessary tools and techniques. PLO 24.2 To apply principles of oral translation, note-taking, and oral translator’s rhetoric techniques in English. PLO 25.2 To have command of techniques for simultaneous and conference translation in English and one of the languages (German/ French/ Spanish/ Italian/Portuguese).

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The program is intended for students who successfully completed practical courses of interpreting and translation and received adequate training.
Students should know basic principles of consecutive interpretation, types of translation transformations, modern Ukrainian and English language norms; be able to adequately use translation transformation and approaches depending on the needs of the situation; be able to carry out preparations referring to the information provided in the translation brief; have at least C1 level in English and C2 level in Ukrainian; have basic skills in consecutive interpreting and note-taking in consecutive interpreting.
Course content
The goal of the subject is: fostering professional skills of using English communication techniques in consecutive interpreting; mastering practical approaches to consecutive interpreting, namely focusing on typical transformations characteristic for interpreting and note-taking in various circumstances; mastering crisis-management strategies, principles of independent work and teamwork with other interpreters; learning basic provisions of interpreters’ codes of ethics/conduct.
The discipline provides training for students for further professional activities in politics, economy, civil society, etc.; deepens knowledge and specific skills in English ↔ Ukrainian consecutive interpreting; teaches rhetoric skills relevant for successful communication.
The discipline finishes with the final exam at the end of the semester.

Assessment during the semester:
• Maximum number of points during the semester – 100,
• Participation in practical classes: LO 1.1–1.4, 2.1–2.3, LO 3.1, LO 4.1, 4.3 – 20 points;
• Interviews based on thematic glossaries: LO 1.1, LO 3.1, LO 4.1 – 10 points;
• Tests: LO 2.1-2.3, LO 3.1, LO 4.1 – 30 points;
End-of-semester assessment – exam:
• Maximum number of points at the exam – 40,
• Subject to assessment: LO 2.1–2.3, LO 3.1, LO 4.1
• 3 oral and written tasks: 1) consecutive interpretation of one video-excerpt of a speech from English/Ukrainian; 2) noting English/Ukrainian video-excerpt of a speech according to the rules of note-taking in consecutive interpreting and its interpreting with the help of these notes; 3) interview based on thematic glossaries;
Eligibility for final exam:
Students whose total points do not satisfy minimum requirements of 36 points are not eligible to take the final exam.
