Learning outcomes
PLO (Program learning outcomes) 1. To evaluate one's own educational, scientific and professional activities, to build and to implement an effective strategy of self-development and professional self-improvement. PLO 6. To apply knowledge about expressive, emotional, logical language means and speech technique for the planned pragmatic result achieving and for the successful communication organizing. PLO 8. To evaluate the historical heritage and the latest achievements in literary studies PLO 10. To сollect and to systematize linguistic, literary, folklore facts, to interpret and to translate texts of various styles and genres in classical and English languages.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1) successful mastering of the disciplines Latin language, Ancient Greek language, History of Ancient Greece and Rome, Ancient mythology and moder world, Culture of Ancient Greece and Rome (in ancient Greek and Latin texts), Ancient epigraphy and paleography in the linguistic and semiotic aspect, History and dialectology of the ancient Greek language, History of the Latin language; 2) knowledge of theoretical and practical basics of the discipline, knowledge of general linguistic concepts, basics of grammar of ancient Greek and Latin languages; 3) skills of analysis and interpretation of texts, including peculiarities of historical period.
Course content
The course is aimed at introducing the most important ancient Greek and Latin inscriptions and the methodology of their reading. It consists of two parts, including following issues: - theoretical basics on the translation of epigraphic texts; - the history of the of Greek language writing; - the problem of multidimensional research of Greek inscriptions; - principles of systematization and classification of Greek inscriptions; reading, translation and commentary of different types of inscriptions; - the history of Latin writing; - the problem of multidimensional research of Latin inscriptions; - principles of systematization and classification of Latin inscriptions; reading, translation and commentary of different types of inscriptions.

Assessment methods and criteria
The control of knowledge is carried out according to the ECTS system, which provides a two-level assessment of the material which was studied, in particular the assessment of theoretical training — learning results (knowledge 1.1 - 1.9), which is 50% of the total scores, and the assessment of practical training — learning results (skills 2.1-2.3); (communication 3.1-3.3); (autonomy and responsibility 4.1-4.4), which is 50% of the total scores. Assesment of activities for the semester: 1. Oral answer: LR 1.1-9; LR 2.1-3; LR 3.1-3; LR 4.1, 4.4 – 18/30 points. 2. Report and presentation: LR 1.1-9; LR 2.1-3; LR 3.1-2; LR 4.1-3 – 10/20 points (to prepare presentation – 3/5 to give presentation – 2/5). 3. Tests: LR 1.1-9; LR 4.3 – 10/15 points 4. Project: LR 2.1-3; LR 3.1; LR 4.1-4 – 12/20 points. Final assessment: credit test.
