Prerequisites and co-requisites
To succeed, the course requires knowledge of English at the level not lower than B1 of CEFR. In addition, students are supposed: To know the organization of language and basic linguistic concepts and terms. To be able to use appropriately basic terminology and a conceptual apparatus of linguistics. To possess the elementary skills of searching for, obtaining and exchanging information.
Course content
The discipline familiarizes students with the specifics of Business English and aims to master business terminology, improve such skills as listening, reading, and creating English business texts of different genres; develop professional communication skills (business presentations, meetings, phone calls, business correspondence, resumes, business plans and reports) and other soft skills (creativity, teamwork, problem-solving, adaptation, and digital skills).

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The modes of the course delivery encompass lectures, practical classes and self-study, incl. online-courses at FutureLearn, multimodel projects and reflexive reports. The teaching methods include explanations, illustrations, reproduction, heuristics and research. To engage students’ in the educational process and foster their interaction, active and interactive methods are used, such as task-based, problem-based and action-based learning.
Assessment methods and criteria
The form of summative assessment is a pass/fail grade (semester 3) and exam (semester 4). The pass grade is given if students earn 60–100 points for their work throughout the semester and does not presuppose any additional assessment. The number of points for the exam is 24–40 (pass), the minimum that is added to the points for summative assessment. Students are admitted to the exam if they earn 36–60 points. The exam includes a written test, business presentation, and discussion of business topics (see § 7 of the Program).
