Learning outcomes
PLO 8. Know and understand the system of the Ancient Greek, Latin and a foreign language, the general properties of literature as the art of word, the history of the Ancient Greek and Latin languages, and literature, be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 12. Analyze language units, determine their interaction, and characterize linguistic phenomena and the underlying processes. PLO 15. Perform linguistic, literary and specific philological analysis of texts of different styles and genres in Ancient Greek and Latin. PLO 20. Know Greek and Latin substratum of the modern academic terminology, possess the knowledge of the metalanguage of the academic description and use it in the situations of professional communication. PLO 21. Possess the skills to translate texts of different styles and genres in Ancient Greek and Latin.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The grammatical structure, word formation system and lexical composition of the Latin language of the classical period; to have the ability to determine the functional meanings of noun and verb forms in context, to gain skills in using Latin lexical items and the grammatical forms, including simple syntactic constructions, while translating from the Ukrainian language into Latin.12. The purpose of the discipline is to familiarize students with the syntactic structure of the Latin language, to prepare students to read prose and poetic writings of classical Roman literature, as well as Latin-language literature of other countries.
Course content
The goal of the discipline is to familiarize students with the syntactic structure of the Latin language, to prepare students to read prose and poetic works of classical Roman literature, as well as Latin-language literature of other countries. Abstract of the academic discipline. The discipline "Latin" belongs to the list of mandatory educational components of the programme "Classical Philology and English Education". Its subject is the syntactic structure of the Latin language. The discipline is aimed at the development of students' speaking, translation and hermeneutic skills, forms the skills of linguistic analysis and interpretation of ancient works based on the material of original texts.

Assessment methods and criteria
Semester assessment. Knowledge control is carried out according to the ECTS system, which provides for a two-level evaluation of the learned material, in particular, the evaluation of theoretical training, which makes up 40% of the total grade, and the evaluation of practical training, which makes up 60% of the total grade. Assessment of semester work: 1. Formation, translation and grammatical analysis of Latin word forms: 1.1-1.5; 2.1; 3.1, 3.2; 4.2-4.4 – 6/10 points; 2. Annotated translation of the Latin text into Ukrainian: 1.1-1.5; 2.1-2.3; 3.1, 3.2; 4.2-4.3. – 6/10 points; 3. Learning a passage from a Latin-language work: 1.5.; 3.2.; 4.4. – 6/10 points; 4.
