Learning outcomes
PLO 2. To demonstrate an adequate level of mastery of national and foreign languages to perform written and spoken communication, namely in the situations of professional and academic communication; to present the results of their studies in these national and foreign languages.
PLO 6. To use knowledge on expressive, emotive, logical language means and speech techniques, principles of intercultural management in order to achieve an intended pragmatic result and organize successful communication.
PLO 10. To collect and systematize facts of language and literature, to interpret and translate texts of various styles and genres (depending on the chosen specialization).
PLO 11. To carry out a scientific analysis of language, speech and literary material, interpret and structure it taking into account appropriate methodological principles, formulate generalizations based on independently processed data.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
To have a level of linguistic competence at the C1 level in German and Ukrainian, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, within the topics specified in the curriculum for the 1st to 4th year of the bachelor's degree and the 1st year of the master's degree in Translation. To possess the basic concepts of the categorical-conceptual apparatus of translation studies. To have a general understanding of the phases of the written translation process, including within the scope of translation projects. To have developed skills in written specialized translation. To have developed language proficiency, general knowledge, and a solid understanding of grammatical and stylistic norms in the source and target languages.
Course content
The objective of the course is to further develop students' subject-specific, strategic, and methodological competencies within the professional competence of a translator in the field of specialized translation from German. It aims to cultivate skills in pre-editing, ongoing editing, and post-editing of written translations produced by humans, including the use of CAT tools, and machine translation of scientific and technical texts in translation directions such as B-A and A-B. The course focuses on mastering the phases of the translation workflow that occur before and after the transfer phase, from pre-translation analysis of the source text to quality control of the target text. Students will also acquire specialized algorithms for pre-translation analysis and comparative-translation analysis within the context of translation editing.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The forms of ongoing assessment include the evaluation of independent homework assignments (working with lecture materials, pre-translation analysis and comparative-translation analysis, short presentations on independent and partner translation editing, critique of translations based on evaluation criteria tables, translation quality assurance factors, and text comprehension assurance factors). It also involves checking the skills demonstrated by students during practical sessions.
Assessment methods and criteria
The main ongoing assessment tasks are as follows:
Independent editing of a specialized translation in the B-A direction - 12/20 points.
Extended pre-translation analysis and comparative translation analysis - 6/10 points.
Critique of a specialized translation - 6/10 points.
The forms of final assessment include modular assessment tests with one test per content module - 12/20 points.
The maximum grade for the semester is 60 points.
The final assessment is conducted in the form of an exam: (24/40 points)
The exam is a written assignment with open-ended answers to a theoretical question and two practical tasks: critique of a specialized translation and editing of a translation with justification of one's own translation decisions.
