Learning outcomes
PLO 1. Evaluate one's own educational and scientific and professional activities, build and implement an effective strategy of self-development and professional self-improvement.
PLO 13. To explain the essence of both specific issues in Translation Studies and one’s point of view and its justification to experts and laypeople in an accessible and argumentative manner, particularly to individuals who are studying.
PLO 15. To choose optimal research approaches and methods of translation analysis for the specific language and literary material.
PLO 16. To use specialized conceptual knowledge in a chosen field of Translation Studies to solve complex tasks and issues, which require updates and integration of knowledge, often under conditions of incomplete or lacking information and contradictory requirements.
PLO 17. To plan, organize, perform and present research and / or innovative developments in a specific field of Translation Studies.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Students should be familiar with the basics of general translation theory; the forms of specialized and literary translation as a means of intercultural communication; methods, techniques, and approaches to translating specialized and literary texts of different types and genres; classical models of the translation process; conducting pre-translation and comparative-translation analysis of texts of different styles and genres; creating oral and written texts of various types and genres in their native and first foreign languages; collecting, analyzing, systematizing, and interpreting linguistic data containing texts of different types and genres; possessing German language skills at a level no lower than C1 (proficient user) according to the CEFR; written mediation from the first foreign language to the native language at a C1 level according to the CEFR; possessing written mediation skills from the native language to the foreign language at a C1 level according to the CEFR.
Course content
The formation and deepening of professional competencies in translation, mastering the methodology, tools, and methods of scientific research in general, and translation studies research in particular, are emphasized. The course materials should provide students with an understanding of the general theoretical foundations and empirical principles of translation studies research, as well as their application in the preparation of the master's qualification work. The discipline facilitates the deepening of general competence in translation theory and the development of professional competence in methodology of translation studies for master's students. It involves acquiring the general theoretical foundations of conducting and validating translation studies research.

Mini-lecture; seminar session; group discussion; independent work; frontal questioning; module assignments; presentations during seminars; group and individual presentations.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semester assessment:
Answers to theoretical questions in the form of presentations: minimum 12 points / maximum 20 points
Pre-translation and comparative-translation analysis of texts: minimum 6 points / maximum 10 points
Translation/editing of a specialized text (from B to A direction): minimum 12 points / maximum 20 points
Module test: minimum 6 points / maximum 10 points
The maximum number of points for continuous assessment is 60, and the minimum is 36.
The final assessment is conducted in the form of an exam:
The exam consists of a written assignment with open-ended answers to a theoretical question and a practical task that involves an oral presentation of a translation studies concept within a chosen "translation image" using PowerPoint slides (minimum 10 slides, prepared in advance).
The maximum number of points for the exam is 40, and the minimum is 24.
