Prerequisites and co-requisites
To successfully complete the course, students must first master the following disciplines: "English in intercultural communication", "Business and academic English" (level B2). Students should also know: the main functional styles and genres of English speech; peculiarities of intercultural communication with representatives of English-speaking cultures; basic theories, strategies and techniques of translation; be able to: select, critically interpret and interpret information from English-language academic sources to solve educational and professional tasks; decode the author's intentions by analyzing the speech means of the text; analyze, compare, compare speech phenomena at the level of a sentence, paragraph, text; to create texts in English in compliance with the norms of the speech genre.
Course content
The goal of the discipline: to increase the effectiveness of academic and business communication in English by: systematizing knowledge about discourse, speech tools and Rhetorical strategies in academic/business discourse, developing skills in using these tools in situations of academic and business communication and in translation.Abstract. The course "Academic and Business Speech, Along with Translation" is designed to increase the effectiveness of academic and business communication in English by: systematizing knowledge about discourse, means of speech and Rhetorical strategies of the English language in academic/business discourse, developing skills in using these means in situations of academic and business communication and in translation. The course includes 2 content modules. Module 1 is devoted to critical reading and analysis of academic and business discourse texts. Module 2 is focused on creating multi-genre texts of these discourses. The discipline ends with a test.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course provides for the following forms of training organization: practical classes and unsupervised work. The main types of work and, accordingly, the objects of semester control are: classwork, essay, group/individual project, modular control work. A student can score a maximum of 60 points and a minimum of 36 points for performing the prescribed types of work. In detail, the criteria for evaluating the types of works during the semester are presented in the work program of the discipline, published on the official website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology. The discipline ends with a test.
Assessment methods and criteria
The overall grade consists of points received for work during the semester (maximum - 80 points, minimum - 48 points) and points of the final assessment in the form of credit (maximum - 20 points, minimum - 12 points). The assessment format is written: it consists of 2 written tasks (Rhetorical analysis of the text - 10 points; 5 lexical and grammatical tasks - 10 points). Assessment is conducted in English according to the results of the study: LR 1.1-1.4, 2.1-2.4, 3.2. The evaluation criteria are presented in detail in the work program of the discipline, published on the official website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.
