Prerequisites and co-requisites
In order to successfully complete the course, students must first master the disciplines: "Fundamentals of translation practice", "Translation practice", "Fundamentals of translation theory", "Linguo-regional studies of the Oriental language", "Oral and Ancient Oriental Literature", "Medieval Oriental Literature", "Trends and movements of Chinese literature of the 20th century". Students should also know the theoretical foundations of modern literary studies and cultural studies, traditional and modern paradigms of modern world literary studies; to possess techniques and methods of literary analysis of artistic texts, basic skills of artistic translation and textual analysis of original works of Chinese literature; to be able to transcribe Chinese proper names in Ukrainian.
Course content
The goal of the discipline is to provide Orientalist students with special and in-depth knowledge of the methodology of artistic translation, understanding the specifics of Chinese literature, and training them in the practical ability to translate prose and poetic works of various genres.Abstract. The course "Artistic translation of Chinese texts" provides theoretical and methodological material on the principles and methods of artistic translation in general and from the Chinese language in particular - on the material of classical and modern Chinese poetry, prose and drama.The course consists of two modules. Module 1 is aimed at mastering the basic methods and techniques of translating a work of art. Module 2 is focused on practicing skills in the translation of Chinese literary texts (identification of lexical, grammatical and stylistic difficulties of literary translation and ways to overcome them). The discipline ends with an exam.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course provides for the following forms of training organization: practical classes and unsupervised work. The main types of work and, accordingly, the objects of semester control are: classwork, presentation (creative work), modular control work. A student can score a maximum of 60 points and a minimum of 36 points for performing the prescribed types of work. In detail, the criteria for evaluating the types of works during the semester are presented in the work program of the discipline, published on the official website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.
Assessment methods and criteria
The total grade consists of points received for work during the semester (maximum – 60 points, minimum – 36 points) and points of the final assessment in the form of an exam (maximum – 40 points, minimum – 24 points). The format of the exam is written: it consists of one theoretical question on the methodology of artistic translation (20 points) and one practical one - the translation of a passage of the original Chinese text (20 points). The exam is conducted in Ukrainian and Chinese according to the Learning outcomes: LR 1.1; LR 1.2; LR 1.3; LR 1.4; LR 2.2; LR 4.1; LR 4.2. The evaluation criteria are presented in detail in the work program of the discipline, published on the official website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.
