Learning outcomes
PLO 1. To assess individual academic and professional activity, to build and implement an effective strategy of self-development and professional self-improvement. PLO 14. To create, analyze, and edit texts of various genres and styles. PLO 19. To detect systemic interlingual differences and take them into account in translation practice. PLO 20. To undertake pre-translation analysis of specialized texts of various styles and genres. PLO 24.1. To apply appropriate strategies and tactics in the process of translating and editing medical, legal, academic and newspaper style texts.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The syllabus is designed for students who have studied English as their first foreign language for two semesters as part of an MA curriculum and who have achieved required results, specifically: • Mastered the courses in Techniques of Specialized Translation, Comparative Stylistics of English and Ukrainian, Specialized Translation Theory, English for Academic Purposes, Medical Translation, Legal Translation and Translation of Contracts, Translation of English Specialized Texts, Techniques for Written Ukrainian-to-English Translation. • Obtained knowledge in translation theory, traditional and new academic paradigms of the English language. • Mastered techniques and methods of linguistic and translation analysis, obtained IT skills in word processing, machine translation, specialized texts corpora, and search systems.
Course content
The discipline is aimed at deepening theoretical and practical knowledge in revising and editing English translated texts, forming revising and editing skills when working on compositional structure, language, style, and content of translated texts. The discipline is optional for students who have chosen to study written translation in professional communication. It covers theoretical and practical aspects of different types of revising and editing work on specialized texts of academic and popular science nature in the areas of Linguistics, Literature Studies, Translation Studies, Politics, Economics, and Law with special focus on translated texts versus those originally written in English. The course gives a review of editorial work as a profession in Ukraine and abroad, teaches approaches to solve editing tasks and helps to form basic skills for different types of revising and editing work. The discipline finishes with a pass/fail test.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Teaching activities and methods include both class work and independent work by students: • Answers at practical classes. • Case Study. • Open answers testing. • Comments and discussion in class. • End-of-term test.
Assessment methods and criteria
Progress assessment during the term: Maximum number of points during the term – 60 points. Final assessment is by an exam – 40 points. Answers at practical classes: LO (Learning Outcome) 1.1; LO 1.2; LO 1.3; LO 2.1; LO 2.2; LO 2.3 -1.5 points (16 classes); Case Study: LO 3.1; LO 2.3 – 5 points 5 (twice); Open answers testing: LO 1.1; LO 1.2 - 5 points (twice) Comments and discussion in class: LO 1.1; LO 1.2; LO 1.3; LO 2.1; LO 2.2; LO 2.3 – 2 points (3 classes); End-of-term test: LO 2.2 – 10 points.
