Learning outcomes
Know: the concept of culture and its ambiguity; basic functions of culture; morphology of culture; basics of periodization of culture; subject field and tasks of culturological research; main stages of anthroposociogenesis; the concept of the Neolithic revolution; mythology as the historically first form of worldview; the problem of language; genesis of moral consciousness and art. Be able to: demonstrate knowledge of specialized literature on cultural studies; to conduct intercultural research; identify ways to preserve and reproduce the cultural traditions of different cultural regions of the world and Ukrainian culture; to determine the original features of Ukrainian culture in the intellectual and artistic spheres, themes of Ukrainian folklore and value-semantic and sign-communicative mechanisms on the ways of cultural self-identification. Present the results of cultural studies and independent work in the form of reports, reports, essays, presentations, abstracts.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Have a general idea of the stages of development of world and Ukrainian culture (based on the school history course). 2. Be able to work with scientific literature and primary sources.
Course content
1 Introduction to the course. Culture as an object of interdisciplinary research. Early forms of culture. Sources of formation of Ukrainian culture. 2 Antiquity as a type of culture. Mythological space of the ancient Slavs. 3 Culture of the European Middle Ages. Culture of Kievan Rus. 4 Culture of the European Renaissance. 5 Ukrainian culture of the early modern era. 6 Culture of the European Enlightenment. 7 Baroque phenomenon in Ukrainian culture. 8 Western European culture of the XIX century. 9 Ukrainian culture of the XIX century. 10 The main directions of development of Ukrainian culture of the XX - early XXI centuries. Global problems of modern world culture.
