PLO 2. To demonstrate an adequate level of mastery of national and foreign languages to perform written and spoken communication, namely in the situations of professional and academic communication; to present the results of their studies in these national and foreign languages. PLO 10. To collect and systematize facts of language and literature, to interpret and translate texts of various styles and genres (depending on the chosen specialization). PLO 22. To analyze, design, and give reasons for translation decisions, decisions on the choice of translation tools and methods of quality assurance in specialized translation.

The purpose of the discipline is further development and improvement of the skills of written and oral translation of scientific and technical texts, control editing and work with dictionaries and other sources of scientific information, familiarization with the peculiarities of the professional activity of translators of scientific texts, etc. Due to this, students are offered materials on various topics, as well as exercises that require significant and careful independent work of students to search for certain terms and expressions in various dictionaries, encyclopedias, training manuals, electronic resources and other sources on the specified topic.

Familiarization with special and genre theories of translation (domestic and foreign scientists), involvement of an interactive method for conducting professional discussions within the framework of course topics in the course of classroom work in order to further use the acquired knowledge to study special literature (including from Internet resources) during preparation to practical classes. Consultations on compiling special glossaries.

Methods: Lectures, practical classes, independent work. General criteria: Students must master the theoretical material, be able to express their opinion on topics that are brought up for discussion during practical classes on scientific translation, operate with the basic terms and concepts of the discipline, know the main features of texts of various genres. Oral answer: from 1 (insufficient knowledge of translation techniques) to 5 points (complete knowledge of educational material). Supplement: from 0.5 (does not significantly expand the discussion) to 2 points (thoroughly supplements the discussion of the topic).
