Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. The basis for successful mastering of the discipline "Toxicology and metabolism of drugs" is the acquisition of basic biological knowledge from the courses "Cytology", "General Histology", "Fundamentals of Embryology", "Anatomy and Physiology of Plants", "Bioorganic Chemistry", "Molecular Biology", "Microbiology", "Animal Physiology and human "and so on. 2. Ability to independently search for the necessary information and analyze the scientific literature; work with scientific and methodological literature.
Course content
The discipline is an important biological discipline that studies the effects of pharmacological drugs on humans and animals, and methods of treatment and prevention of acute poisoning. During the course students get acquainted with pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, pharmacogenetics, toxicogenetics, etc. Particular attention during the study of the discipline is paid to the influence of substances on the reproductive function of humans and animals; embryotoxic, teratogenic, gonadotoxic, mutagenic and carcinogenic effects of substances. This course forms an idea of the action of drugs at the subcellular (receptors, enzymes, components of biomembranes, etc.), cellular and tissue levels. The discipline also outlines the range of research methods and techniques that can be used in conducting research in related sciences and in interdisciplinary projects, and which require in-depth knowledge of the discipline.
