PLO 4. Know and understand theoretical approaches to the definition of culture, its manifestations and forms of existence. PLO 7. To understand the factors of ethnocultural dynamics, the principles of periodization of ethnocultural processes, their specific features and characteristics. PLO 10. Recognize and classify different types of ethno-cultural products, determine their quality characteristics based on comprehensive analysis.

Before studying this discipline, a student should know: genus-species division of literature; basic literary theoretical concepts necessary for the implementation of literary analysis. The student must possess the following basic skills and abilities: determining the special place of the ancient and Western European literary tradition (the periods of Antiquity, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the 17th century, the Enlightenment, the 19th-20th centuries) in the world literary continuum; carrying out an analytical reading of individual works of the specified periods.

The purpose of the discipline is to acquaint students with the history of the literary process in Western Europe (from Antiquity to the end of the 20th century) and America (the 19th to the end of the 20th century). Abstract. The discipline is aimed at forming students' system of knowledge on the history of the literary process of Western Europe and America in the context of the relevant historical and cultural era. The objectives of the course are: familiarizing students with the leading literary trends of a particular cultural and artistic period; determination of features of the formation and development of Ancient literature; delineation of the specifics of the main directions of the development of literature in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance; highlighting the artistic trends of Baroque and Classicism within the literary process of the 17th century; highlighting the characteristic features of the literary process of the Enlightenment; familiarization with the work of prominent representatives of the literature of each era; forming and consolidating the skills of literary analysis and the ability to interpret an artistic text.

The following forms of teaching are planned within the course: lectures, seminars, independent work. Throughout the semester, after lectures on relevant topics, seminar classes are held, at which evaluation is carried out according to the types of work (oral report, addition, blitz survey, participation in discussions, control tests).

The final assessment for the course is formed as the sum of the points of the current control and provides for additional measures of the final assessment. Forms of current control include answers to seminar classes (max 40/min 24 points), preparation of an individual presentation (max 20/min 12 points) and writing two modular control papers (max 40/min 24 points). Total forms of final control are max 100/min 60 points. Students who did not score at least 60 points during the semester must prepare material on the topics for which the debt arose, in the form of writing a final test.
