Learning outcomes
PLO 2. To demonstrate an adequate level of mastery of national and foreign languages to perform written and spoken communication, namely in the situations of professional and academic communication; to present the results of their studies in these national and foreign languages. PLO 4. To assess and analyze critically vital social, individual and professional issues and offer tactics for their resolution, in difficult and unpredictable conditions, which require the application of new approaches and forecasting. PLO 6. To use knowledge on expressive, emotive, logical language means and speech techniques in order to achieve an intended pragmatic result and organize successful communication. PLO 19. To detect systemic interlingual differences and take them into account in translation practice.

Course content
The discipline presupposes thorough study of English lexical and stylistic means, its cultural and communicative characteristics based on language material which includes texts of various genres. These texts are complemented by certain grammatical, lexical, stylistic, communicative and translation tasks. The themes studied encompass politics, economics, science, culture, and art of English-speaking countries. The syllabus presupposes complex teaching of the language. All its aspects are studied alongside the development of students' speaking, translation, and academic skills.

Assessment methods and criteria
Progress assessment (during the term): • Maximum number of grades during the tern- 60, minimum -36. • Answers during practical classes РН 1.1, 1.3, 2.1-2.4, 3.1 –max. 27 grades/min. 17. • Preparation of written tasks for classes РН 1.4, 2.2, 2.5, 3.2' – max. 27 grades /min. 17. • Test papers РН 1.2-1.4, 2.5, 2.6, 4.1 -max.6 grades/min. 2. Final assessment in the form of exam after РН 1.3, 1.4, 2.2, 2.3, 2.6: • Written translation of a text (from English into Ukrainian) – max. 20 grades/ min. 12. • Talk on one of the oral topics – max. 20 grades/ min. 12. Maximum grade for the exam – 40, minimum – 24.
