Learning outcomes
• To know the peculiarities of sociological knowledge and its differences from other knowledge about society.
• To describe and analyze social phenomena using everyday knowledge and sociological concepts.
• To define the content and reveal the essence of the main social problems in modern society.
• Improvement of communication skills.
• Group work (face-to-face).

• To know the characteristics of scientific and non-scientific knowledge about society.
• To have an understanding of the peculiarities of information representation in the media.
• To possess basic skills of searching and selecting relevant information and sources, presenting and arguing one's own opinion.
Course content
• The specificity of sociological knowledge about society.
• Contemporary sociology and its focus on current societal issues.
• Sociological research on contemporary social problems.
• Presentation and interpretation of sociological information in the media.
• Social norms, social control, and personality. Deviant behavior as a source of social problems in society.
• Module-based written examination
• Social inequality in modern societies as a factor in social problems.
• Issues of socio-economic disparities.
• Poverty, wealth, and social stratification.
• Social consequences and problems of migration in contemporary Europe and Ukraine.
• Problems and challenges of contemporary political processes. Civil position.
• Social challenges of modern changes in family, marriage, and personal life.
• Social challenges of religious life.
• Social changes in the modern world. Challenges of terrorism, informatization, environmental and technological disasters.
