Learning outcomes
PLO 3. Apply modern methods and technologies, in particular information technologies, for successful and effective implementation of professional activities and ensuring the quality of research in a specific philological field. PLO 6: To use knowledge on expressive, emotive, logical language means and speaking techniques in order to achieve the intended pragmatic result and organize successful communication. 7. Analyze, compare, and classify different directions and schools in linguistics. PLO 8. Evaluate historical achievements and new developments in translation, language and literary studies. PLO 13. To explain the essence of both specific linguistic issues and one’s point of view and its justification to experts and laypeople in an accessible and argumentative manner, particularly to individuals who are studying. PLO 18: To present individual study results to the scholarly community via scholarly publications or conference, round-table, workshop etc. reports.

Course content
Abstract of the academic discipline: The course is composed of two parts: "Development of rhetoric as a science of eloquence and orator’s art" and "Theory of argumentation as an important component of rhetoric." The first is aimed at mastering the tasks and basic concepts of modern rhetoric in their historical setting, at getting acquainted with the best examples of speech, starting from Antiquity. The second is aimed at the analysis of the components of rhetoric as a system and familiarization with the techniques of modern theory of argumentation, which is important for the translator's work. .

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
lectures, seminars, practical classes, individual work; • tasks assigned to individual work as: preparation for lectures, seminars, practicals classes, presentation of the topic; • answers to the blitz poll before the start of the lecture; • oral answers while seminars (main answers and additions); • defense \ presentation of the essay up the chosen topic of the discipline.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semester assessment: credit. The distribution of points is carried out as follows: max. are 100 points during the semester and min. are 60 points. Evaluation criteria: • oral answers, additions, participation in discussions at seminars, blitz oral test: LO1.1 – 1.3, 2.1-2.2, 3.1-3.2, 4.1-4.2 – min. are 40 points; • defense/presentation of the chosen topic: LO1.1-1.3, 2.1-2.2, 3.1-3.2, 4.1-4.2 - min. are 20 points; • the credit is the sum of all types of work per semester; • evaluation of all types of work is carried out in points, in accordance with the clause 7.1 of the “Work plan of the scientific discipline”.
