Learning outcomes
PLO1. Communicate freely on professional issues with specialists and non-specialists in national and foreign languages orally and in writing, use them to organize effective intercultural communication. Effectively work with information: select the necessary information from various sources, in particular from professional literature and electronic databases, critically analyze and interpret it, organize, classify and systematize it. Prerequisites and co-requisites
1) successful assimilation of the first part of the complex discipline Fundamentals of Neohellenistics Introduction to the specialty (first language); 2) knowledge of general information about the phonetic and grammatical system of the Modern Greek language, possessing a lexical minimum within the limits of level A1; 3) command of the modern Greek language at the level of A1-A1+ competences.
Course content
The aim of the discipline is to develop the skills of philological work (analysis and translation) with texts from different periods of the Greek cultural tradition; familiarization with the grammatical system of the ancient Greek language in order to organize and deepen the knowledge of the practical course of the modern Greek language; development of the skills of processing archaic elements of various levels in modern Greek texts, their interpretation, finding the original text and reproduction in translation. The discipline consists of two meaningful parts. The first outlines the structural and semantic features of the functioning of the grammatical system of the ancient Greek language; introduces students to the formation of inflectional paradigms in the noun and verb system; the main types of syntactic connection in ancient Greek phrases and sentences. The second - develops practical skills of working with ancient Greek adapted and original texts, understanding and correct interpretation of linguistic phenomena, comparing them with typologically similar phenomena in the modern Greek language.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Forms of learning used in the course: oral answers in practical classes (exercises, translation and analysis of texts), independent work (grammar exercises) and creative tasks (intra-lingual translation - Ancient Greek / New Greek), as well as tests.
Assessment methods and criteria
The semester grade is based on the points earned by the student in the process of mastering the material from the entire course. The total grade for the semester consists of the points received for classroom work and for independent work (home translations, essays). A student can get a maximum of 60 points and a minimum of 36 points. The final evaluation is conducted in the form of an exam: the maximum number of points in the exam is 40 points, the minimum number of points (positive grade) that are added to the semester points is 24 points. For different types of work, points are awarded from 10 to 2. Differentiation of grades is based on the percentage of the students fulfillment of the maximum requirements for the assignment (10 points - 100%, 8 points - 80%, etc.).
Language of instruction
Ukrainian, and original and adapted texts in ancient Greek and New Greek are used.
