Learning outcomes
Know:
1.1 basic theoretical and methodological principles of the study of the settlement network in the socio-demographic dimension;
1.2 modern socio-demographic specifics of various settlement structures and the main factors that shape it;
1.3 basic methods and approaches to the analysis of demographic processes and structures in the intersettlement section.
Be able:
2.1 to use theoretical knowledge in the practice of social research of the settlement network, in particular modern urban settlements, as well as the analysis of globalization processes in their socio-demographic dimension;

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Have a basic sociological conceptual and categorical apparatus.
2. Know and be able to use statistical concepts and indicators.
3. Be able to work with one-dimensional and two-dimensional tables.
Course content
I. Theoretical and methodological foundations of socio-demographic analysis of the settlement network.
1 Theoretical foundations of socio-demographic analysis of the settlement network.
2 Methodological issues of socio-demographic analysis of the settlement network and its information support.
3 Urbanization, demographic transition and population reproduction in different types of settlements.
ІІ. The specifics of population reproduction in different types of settlements and its determinants.
4 Life expectancy of the population and factors of its formation in different types of settlements.
5 Birth rate and reproductive behavior in the intersettlement dimension.
8 Socio-demographic composition of the population.
9 Social economy: the specifics of problems in the settlement context.

Assessment methods and criteria
1. CW 1 with topics 1-3 - 15 points / 8 points
2. CW 2 with topics 4-9 -15 points / 8 points
3. Participation in practical classes on topics 1-3 -15 points / 10 points
4. Participation in practical classes on topics 4-9 - 15 points / 10 points
final assessment: written exam (ticket contains two open questions and a task) - 40 points (open questions are evaluated by 15 points, task -10 points). The minimum score for passing the exam (receiving an overall positive grade) is 24 points.
