Learning outcomes
1.1. lexical minimum for obtaining, producing and exchanging professional information on the topic; 1.2. varieties of lexical units of professional texts; 1.3. peculiarities of the terminology of specialized texts on sociology; 1.4. methods of writing a structured scientific paper; 2.1. to carry out communication in written (written speech and written communication) and oral forms (speech) within the limits of the professional subject; 2.2. use grammatical structures inherent in the academic style; 2.3. find and understand the necessary information in foreign language printed and electronic sources; 2.4. distinguish and create full-fledged examples of scientific communication in a foreign language; 3.1. analyze, compare, classify professional information, see the relationship between parts of the whole, as well as find discrepancies between facts and consequences; 3.2. creatively apply the acquired knowledge, compare and systematize the results of experiments.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Know: lexical and grammatical material necessary for understanding and producing professional English-language texts; methods of writing an academic work; speech samples typical for official and colloquial registers of professional speech; lexical and grammatical material necessary for understanding and producing professionally oriented texts; basic rules of English syntax. Be able to: discuss educational and specialization-related issues to achieve mutual understanding with the interlocutor; find textual, graphic, audio and video information contained in English-language professional materials, using appropriate search methods and terminology; prepare public presentations on industry issues; analyze English-language sources to obtain data necessary for the performance of professional tasks; translate and understand professional texts using bilingual terminological dictionaries.
Course content
Types of academic writing. Types of scientific articles. Structuring of a scientific article depending on its type. Vocabulary and style of scientific text. The problem of plagiarism. Peculiarities of citation and paraphrasing in a scientific article. Types of author's annotations and their structure. Types of critical annotations, their content, style and vocabulary.
