Course content
The discipline "Fundamentals of geographic information systems and technologies" belongs to the list of mandatory ones. It is focused on mastering the modern theoretical and practical foundations of working with spatial information and their attributes. The ability to work with GIS is an important component of professional competence. Geography, geographic information, informatics turned out to be necessary for solving many applied tasks and problems of today. The discipline is designed for the study of the basics of geoinformation systems and technologies in the first semester of the 1st year and involves lectures and the performance of laboratory tasks conducted in the computer classroom. The discipline consists of two content modules. The first "Introduction to GIS" is devoted to the basics of geographic information systems and the history of their development. The structural components of GIS and their functional capabilities are considered. Classification and features of data formation in GIS are studied. The second module "Technologies of entering and presenting information in GIS" reveals the features of working with spatial and attribute data in GIS, features of entering and presenting information in GIS. Work with databases. The form of discipline control is an exam.

Assessment methods and criteria
Final evaluation: in the form of an exam; • the final grade from the educational component, the final form of control by which credit is established, is defined as the sum of grades (points) for all successfully assessed study results 60 points and the exam 40 points. Grades below the minimum threshold level are not added to the final grade. • completion of all laboratory work and modular control work is mandatory for obtaining a positive final grade (60 points and above on the exam). Control is carried out according to the modular rating system. Forms of control are meaningful modules, the points of which are made up of laboratory works and modular control works. Completion of laboratory work is mandatory for the exam.
