Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Know the genetic laws and modern methods of selection of woody, herbaceous and bulbous plants, features of creating industrial varieties of ornamental plants for open and protected soils.
2. To be able to create hybrids and new varieties with given parameters of decorativeness and stability, to use genetic maps and cytological maps of chromosomes for selection of parent pairs when crossing plants, to carry out intraspecific and interspecific hybridization of ornamental plants.
3. Possess basic skills of variety testing and zoning of new varieties.
Course content
Scientific bases of selection of ornamental plants, features of use of methods of hybridization, polyploidy, mutagenesis and heterosis are considered. Modern methods and directions of plant breeding are presented. Issues of seed production are covered, including features of seed production of heterosis hybrids, polyploids and varietal populations.
