Learning outcomes
The student should know the main stages of the development of science in times of antiquity and the Middle Ages; the main stages of the formation of the theory of thermal phenomena; the main stages of formation of the theory of electricity and magnetism; the main manifestations of the crisis of classical physics and the prerequisites for the emergence of quantum physics; the main stages of the formation of quantum physics; the main problems of physics today.
The student must be able to analyze the reasons for the development of physical representations; explain the relationship between the development of various physical theories; Apply the acquired knowledge to form and solve new scientific problems; Name the names and times of life of outstanding scientists who made a significant contribution to the development of physical theories.
Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
The educational discipline "Development of physical theories" is based on the cycle of disciplines of professional and practical training, in particular, on the courses of the cycle of general physics and philosophy.
Course content
The program of the discipline examines the stages of the formation of physics as a science from ancient times to the present day. This is achieved by considering the development of four physical theories (mechanics, thermal phenomena, electricity and magnetism, quantum physics). Special attention is paid to consideration of prerequisites for each new stage of development of physical theories, ways of development of scientific thought, method of obtaining results.

Assessment methods and criteria
Semester evaluation: control is carried out according to the following principle. The study semester has two content modules. After the completion of the relevant topics, two written module tests are conducted. Writing the 1st and 2nd modular test papers with a score of at least 15 points is mandatory for admission to the credit.
The final assessment is in the form of a credit. the form of assessment is written and oral. In total, you can get from 0 to 40 points for the assessment. A condition for achieving a positive grade for a discipline is to obtain at least 60 points, while the grade for credit cannot be less than 24 points.
