Learning outcomes
The student must know the basic laws of optics, the basic properties of optical materials and electromagnetic radiation in optical range; features of optical effects and phenomena; the system of Maxwell's equations in differential form of record for dielectrics and metals, basic properties electromagnetic waves; matrix methods in optics; classical theories of wave optics; methods of obtaining and properties polarized light; principles of operation of optical devices; basics of nonlinear optics.
The student must be able to master matrix methods in optics; use geometric formulas optics; find the position of the cardinal points planes and points by different methods; to have a mathematical apparatus for applying the system of Maxwell's equations; Calculate parameters of optical circuits observation of diffraction phenomena and
interference; determine the main characteristics optical elements and simple optical ones systems

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The educational discipline "Optics" is based on a cycle of professional and practical disciplines training, in particular, "Mechanics", "Molecular Physics", "Electricity and Magnetism", "Mathematical analysis", "General algebra".
Course content
The discipline program examines the laws of geometric optics, wave optics, and quantum optics optics, thermal radiation, as well as the system of Maxwell's equations and its partial cases for optical materials (dielectrics), conductive materials and magnetic media. The mechanisms and classical theories of the interaction of electromagnetic radiation with substance The properties of electromagnetic waves and the conditions of light propagation are analyzed in anisotropic environments. The theories of light scattering, as well as the foundations of nonlinearity, are considered optics
