Learning outcomes
Know:
1.1 The reasons for the inclusion of the city in the subject area of sociology and the further development of this vector of research in classical sociological theories.
1.2 Fundamentals and principles of sociological theories of cities and urbanization in different paradigmatic perspectives.
1.3 Typologies, features, patterns of development, the internal structure of cities, as well as the basic conceptual and categorical apparatus of sociology of the city and urbanization.
Be able:
2.1 Apply methods of collecting sociological information in the process of studying phenomena, social groups, urban processes
2.2 Use methods of analysis, comparison and evaluation of the content of current discussions in modern sociology to determine the role of cities in public life.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Know the basic methods of analysis of sociological information.
2. Know the theoretical foundations of classical sociological theories.
3. Be able to work with scientific literature and primary sources.
Course content
1. The genesis of the formation of ideas about urbanization processes and the city as a social phenomenon in sociology.
1.1 The city and urbanization through the prism of research on the production and economic approach of the classics of sociological thought.
1.2 Sociocultural paradigm of studying the city in sociology.
1.3 Urban and anti-urban ideas in the Ukrainian sociological thought of the XIX-first half of the XX century.
2. Current aspects of the study of the structure of the urban environment in modern sociological theories.
2.1 Social group as an element of the social structure of society.
2.2 Subjects of urban space, their roles and functions.
2.3 Phenomenological concept of urban planning.
3. Sociological studies of the dynamics of social groups.
3.1 Dynamic processes of urban life.
3.2 Sociological approach to the construction and design of cities.
3.3 The image of the city in modern Ukrainian sociological discourse.

Assessment methods and criteria
1. Work on practical classes during the semester with topics - maximum 35 points / minimum 20 points
2. Modular test 1 on topic 1-3 - maximum 15 points / minimum 10 points
3. Modular test 2 on topic 4-6 - maximum 15 points / minimum 10 points
4. Analytical final task on topic 7-9 - maximum 35 points / minimum 20 points
final assessment: differentiated test
