Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Know: basics of general microbiology, molecular biology, genetics. Mastering special courses "Phylogenetic analysis in microbiology" and "Bioinformatics". 2. To be able to independently apply knowledge of molecular biology, genetics to navigate in modern methods of molecular biology and bioinformatics. 3. Have basic skills in processing scientific literature, problem solving, bioinformatics analysis and data analysis, work with materials and equipment used in the molecular biological laboratory.
Course content
The subject of the discipline is the main properties of bacterial genomes: their structure, mechanisms of transmission and realization of information, plasticity, instability, mechanisms of evolution. Attention is paid to the basics of genetics and molecular biology, as well as to the "omics" and the levels they study. Much of the special course is devoted to the mobile genetic elements of bacteria from insertion sequences and CRISPR / Cas systems to plasmid replicons and prophages, the peculiarities of their functioning, transmission, interaction with the cell and with each other. The use of bacterial genetic elements and enzymes as tools of molecular genetic research, from restriction analysis and sequencing to editing genomes and epigenomes, is considered.
