Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. To know about major environmental, economic and social challenges and issues of mankind; basics terms of economics as well as general knowledge about government, business and society's duties and responsibilities.
2. To be able to analyze information, to take a decision at own response.
3. To have skills in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
Course content
The course explores the most critical topics in environmental economics today. In a world of increasing scarcity and competing demands, economic analysis can guide public policy to efficient utilization of resources. Market failures are the cause of many of our most serious environmental and social problems but can remedied with economic tools. Topics covered in this course include the economics of population growth, poverty and income distribution, market failures, economic valuation, economic incentive instruments. Сase studies will supplement course assignments and facilitate discussions centered on current issues. After this course, students will gain an understanding of the environmental issues and the economic incentive instruments and valuation methodologies that can employed to protect, improve or conserve the environment.
