Tasks of studying the discipline are aimed at forming the following competencies: to evaluate the nature and content of social processes and phenomena, and show understanding of the boundaries and mechanisms of their legal regulation; assess the credibility of information and reliability of sources, effectively process and use information for research and practical activities; to conduct a comparative legal analysis of individual legal institutions, various legal systems, taking into account the relationship of the legal system of Ukraine with the legal systems of the Council of Europe and the European Union; identify a current practical or scientific problem, plan and conduct research to solve it, select relevant methodologies and sources.

Full-time form

Prerequisites for mastering the discipline: 1) knowledge of doctrinal understanding of the nature of intellectual property, definition of "intellectual property", "institutions of intellectual property rights", "non-property intellectual property rights", "intellectual property rights", "subject of intellectual property rights", "the balance of public and private interests of law in intellectual property law"; 2) possession of skills of analysis of the provisions of international law in general and international intellectual property law in particular.

The discipline "International law and international legal protection of intellectual property" is part of professional training of specialists at Master in Law program, educational course "Intellectual Property" at the Education and Research Law School of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. The study of the discipline reveals the following issues on the principle of architecture: a) the development trends of international legal protection of intellectual property; b) principles of international legal protection of intellectual property through the prism of the balance of private and public interests; c) the legal nature of the sub-institutions of intellectual property law in various legal systems; d) the balance between Ukraine's international obligations and national interests in harmonizing national legislation with international law; e) the formation of an understanding of characteristics of state sovereignty, which is provided by intellectual property mechanisms.

The study of the discipline involves lectures and practical classes; express survey/testing/essay (abstract) on the proposed topic; modular test work; self-study and individual assignments; exam.

Types of ongoing performance evaluation can be: express survey, report, research, testing (from the set of judgments to choose the right ones), case solving (tasks), module test (final test). During the ongoing performance evaluation at seminars, the following are assessed: the level of knowledge demonstrated by the student in the answer, activeness in discussing the issues of the seminar, regular work in the classroom, the results of self-study. The discipline is taught during one term. 10 days before the beginning of the session, the teacher who conducts the seminars no longer accepts missing assignments. For students who have not scored the minimum threshold level of assessment, a final test is conducted.
