Tasks of the discipline are aimed at forming the following competencies: to present their research on the legal protection of intellectual property in the European Union, using primary sources and methods of legal interpretation of complex problems arising from this study, to justify conclusions; to develop and teach special disciplines in educational institutions, to apply modern educational technologies and methods.

Full-time form

Prerequisites for mastering the discipline: 1. To know the basic scientific problems on legal protection of results of intellectual creative activity in the European Union. 2. Be able to research and draw conclusions on the content of legal concepts, doctrines of interpretation of the essence of different categories of intellectual property and features of legal protection of intellectual property in the European Union. 3. Have basic skills in drafting legal documents, taking into account the specifics of the practical situation and using legal methods to resolve disputes arising in the field of legal protection of intellectual property in the European Union.

The discipline "Intellectual property law of the European Union" is part of professional training of specialists at Master in Law program, educational course "Intellectual Property" at the Education and Research Law School of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. The main components of the discipline are aimed at providing students with knowledge of the main problems of legal protection of intellectual property in the European Union; the grounds for acquiring legal protection of intellectual property rights in the European Union; formation of their skills to correctly interpret the content of national and international law on the acquisition, disposal and protection of intellectual property rights in the European Union.

The study of the discipline involves lectures and practical classes; express survey/testing/essay (abstract) on the proposed topic; modular test work; student self-study in preparation for seminars; credit (exam).

Types of ongoing performance evaluation can be: express survey, report, research, testing (from the set of judgments to choose the right ones), case solving (tasks), module-on control work (final test work). During the ongoing performance evaluation at seminars, the following are assessed: the level of knowledge demonstrated by the student in the answer, activeness in discussing the issues of the seminar, regular work in the classroom, the results of self-study. The discipline is taught during one term. 10 days before the beginning of the session, the teacher who conducts the seminars no longer accepts missing assignments. For students who have not scored the minimum threshold level of assessment, a final test is conducted.
