Learning outcomes
PLO 7. To understand the main problems of philology and approaches to their solution using appropriate methods and innovative approaches. PLO 8. To know and understand the language system, the general properties of literature as an art of speech, the history of the Persian language and literature, and to be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 13. To analyze and interpret works of Ukrainian and Persian fiction and oral folk art, determine their specificity and place in the literary process of Iran and Ukraine. PLO 15. To carry out linguistic, literary and special philological analysis of texts of various styles and genres. PLO 16. To know and understand the basic concepts, theories and concepts of the chosen philological specialization, to be able to apply it.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful mastering of the disciplines “Lingual country studies of Iran”, “Introduction to Persian Philology”, “Basics of Literary Studies” ; knowledge of phonetics, vocabulary and grammar of the modern Persian language obtained from the practical course of Persian at the basic level.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to acquaint students with the oral and ancient written literature of Iran in the pre-Islamic period; to highlight the concept of Persian literature, historical features of the formation of this literature; to consider the worldview of ancient Iranians, their mentality and culture based on samples of ancient oral and written literature of Iran. The discipline consists of two parts. The first part examines the periodization and stages of the development of Iranian literature, gives a description of the main monuments and sources of ancient Iranian literature, their genre forms. The second part is devoted to the early medieval literature of pre-Islamic Iran including epic and historical narratives, annals, mythologized biographies, the genre of journeys to the afterlife, etc. The discipline is the first part of the complex discipline "History of Persian Literature" and has a theoretical orientation.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Learning activities comprise interactive lectures and seminar classes. Self-study of the students involves preparation for oral responses, reports with the analyses of scientific literature, research presentation, precis, summaries.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semestral assessment is based on the oral testing, written assignments,participation in discussions, reports and presentations – 36/60 points, modular test papers – 12/20 points, final test paper – 12/20 points. The credit is given based on the results of the student’s work throughout the entire semester and does not require additional assessment measures. Students who scored 60 points, the required minimum, receive “passed”. Students who failed to score 60 points, the required minimum, receive “failed”. Those students who scored totally less than 60 points during the semester period should complete a test paper in the items which he/she failed to pass. Final score 60-100 – passed; 0-59 – failed.
