Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful mastering of the courses "Biochemistry", "Bioorganic Chemistry", "Human and Animal Physiology", "Structure and metabolism of lipids", "Structure and functions of peptides and proteins", "Structure and functions of biological membranes", "Biologically active substances". Ability to apply knowledge and skills acquired during the mastery of bioorganic chemistry, biochemistry, human and animal physiology, search and analysis of scientific literature. Possession of basic approaches to finding the causes of nervous system disorders at the biochemical level using modern research methods.
Course content
The course studies the biochemical features of the structure and functioning of the nervous system, including amino acid and lipid metabolism of the brain, brain-specific proteins, features of the structure and function of neuronal membranes, gene expression in the brain and its energy metabolism, structure and role of blood-brain barrier. Neurotransmitter systems are considered, in particular their participation in the processes of memory formation and learning and the influence of various psychopharmacological agents on them.
