            4. To know and understand theoretical approaches to definition of culture, its manifestations and forms of existence.
6. To identify, verify and summarize information on various contexts of cultural practice, to determine the degree of their relevance using different sources, information, communication tools and visual technologies.
8. To interpret cultural sources (material, printed, visual, artistic) using special literature and certain methods, tо reasonably present conclusions regarding their content.

            Prerequisites and co-requisites
        
        
            Before the course of study students are expected to demonstrate knowledge of major stages of foreign literature evolution as well as dominant philosophical and aesthetic trends and tendencies, precedent-related texts required for the compulsory courses; to define principal themes and problems that emerge from studies of the literary process; to use selected literary terms accurately; to sharpen skills in analyzing literary texts.
Before studying this discipline, students must know
- socio-historical conditions of development of Ukrainian literature in the ethnocultural context;
- Features of coexistence in the Ukrainian literary discourse of different stylistic tendencies;
- the latest literary concepts, to be guided in them, to operate freely with them during the analysis of works of art;
Be able to work with various sources of educational and scientific information, process them, identify literary phenomena.
        
    
            Course content
        
        
            Modul 1 “The History of Foreign Literature”. An introduction to the course of the history of foreign literature. Topic 1. Ancient literature: the main features of ancient literature, ancient Greek mythology, Homer’s epic, Roman literature. Topic 2. Literature of the Renaissance. Renaissance in Italy, Spain, England. Topic 3. XVII century: baroque and classicism. Topic 4. Literature of the Enlightenment. Topic 5. History of foreign literature of the XIX century: romanticism, realism, symbolism.
The Modul 2  “The History of Ukrainian Literature” of discipline   consolidates and deepens basic knowledge of the history of Ukrainian literature, in particular the laws of development of the modern Ukrainian historical and literary process in relations with other branches of Ukrainian culture. He continues the systematic study of vivid literary phenomena in the Ukrainian cultural and stylistic epoch XX-XXI.

            1. Oral presentation, additions and participation in discussions at seminars: 21/35 points
2. Self-study (analysis,synopsis of texts,individual task,  a PowerPoint presentation ): 25/45 points
3. Final test in writing - 14/20 points
Final assessment in the form of credit: the final number of points in the course (maximum 100 points) is determined as the sum of points for systematic work during the semester, taking into account the final test. Credit is set based on the results of the student's work throughout the semester and does not provide for additional assessment activities.
