PLO 10. To collect and systematize facts of language and literature, to interpret and translate texts of various styles and genres (depending on the chosen specialization). PLO 11. To carry out a scientific analysis of language, speech and literary material, interpret and structure it taking into account appropriate methodological principles, formulate generalizations based on independently processed data. PLO 14. To create, analyze, and edit texts of various genres and styles. PLO 16. To use specialized conceptual knowledge in a chosen field of Translation Studies to solve complex tasks and issues, which require updates and integration of knowledge, often under conditions of incomplete or lacking information and contradictory requirements.

Full-time form

1. Proficiency in the German language at a B2-C1 level. 2. Skills in written and/or oral translation between German and Ukrainian languages.

This is a theoretical-practical discipline within the student's elective courses, focusing on the legal system of Germany in comparison with Ukraine as a whole, as well as court communication involving the interpreter. The course consists of two content modules and one assessment (credit) work. The final assessment is in the form of a credit examination. The final grade is determined by the scores obtained for oral responses, simulations, terminological mini-project, written translations, and the credit assessment work. The objectives of the course include familiarizing students with the concept of legal and court translation, functions and types of legal texts, linguistic and structural peculiarities of texts in the two working languages. It also covers the legal systems (general, judicial system, judicial proceedings) of Ukraine and Germany, acquisition of legal terminology, training in pre-translation analysis of legal texts, as well as written translation of legal texts in court communication and consecutive interpretation in court, and understanding the role of the interpreter in court.

The teaching methods for this course include mini-lectures, presentations, discussions, practical sessions (individual and group work, project work such as compiling a terminological glossary), simulations (translation tasks), independent study, and consultations.

Self-reflection and feedback accompany the assessment process. The final semester grade (pass/fail) is determined by the scores obtained by the student in the specified types of learning activities and assessment methods outlined in the program (maximum 70 points), as well as the scores from the final assessment (maximum 30 points) conducted in the form of an exam. The minimum passing score for the exam is 18 points (60% of the maximum score), which is added to the semester points. Throughout the semester, student participation in discussions and debates during practical sessions, completion of individual and group assignments, simulations, and the compilation of a glossary are assessed. Participation in translation simulations and completion of translation tasks (either throughout the semester or as part of the exam) are mandatory.
