Learning outcomes
PLO 11. To carry out a scientific analysis of language, speech and literary material, interpret and structure it taking into account appropriate methodological principles, formulate generalizations based on independently processed data. PLO 16. To use specialized conceptual knowledge in a chosen field of Translation Studies to solve complex tasks and issues, which require updates and integration of knowledge, often under conditions of incomplete or lacking information and contradictory requirements.

Proficiency in Ukrainian at level C1 and above, and proficiency in German at level B2 and above.
Course content
The elective course aims to enhance the professional and general competencies of an interpreter and master the tool of shorthand in translation. Higher education students study the theoretical foundations of note-taking techniques in consecutive interpreting (as a means of capturing the meaning of the source text and providing support for its reproduction in the target language). They familiarize themselves with various shorthand systems (notation) used in translation and practice note-taking, consecutive interpreting (working languages: German, Ukrainian), and develop a foundation for their own note-taking system (symbols, abbreviations, letter notations, etc.). The final assessment takes the form of an exam, which includes a free dialogue on the topics of the course and an oral consecutive translation using shorthand techniques.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The learning activities for this course include mini-lectures, presentations, analysis of professional situations, discussions, practical exercises, assignments (analyzing video and printed materials), individual and team tasks, presentations, small-group feedback, reflection, independent work, team projects with mentoring support, and self-reflection.
Assessment methods and criteria
The final assessment for the semester is based on the points obtained from the prescribed types of learning and forms of assessment outlined in the program (maximum 60 points) and the points from the final evaluation (maximum 40 points) conducted in the form of an exam. At the end of the semester, students are expected to complete a final translation task, simulating a situation of consecutive interpreting. Final Evaluation: The exam consists of an oral and a written part. The written part (test) assesses theoretical knowledge of the discipline and the ability to apply it in the analysis of translation (consecutive interpreting). The maximum score for the written part is 10, and the minimum passing score is 6. The oral part involves consecutive interpreting (German and Ukrainian languages) using shorthand techniques and analyzing the completed notes in a dialogue format. The maximum score for the oral part is 30, and the minimum passing score is 18.
