Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful completion of courses: "Terminology", "Translation Techniques", "Translation of Scientific and Technical Texts", "Specialized Translation Theories", "Translation Terminology". 2. Knowledge of the basic concepts of the categorical apparatus of terminology and general translation theory. 3. Proficiency in German and Ukrainian at the C1/C2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages; basic medical knowledge.
Course content
The aim of the discipline is to enhance the theoretical and practical foundation necessary for the successful development and further improvement of translation skills and abilities. It also aims to prepare students for independent provision of international professional communication, particularly in the field of medicine. The discipline involves studying and mastering the specific aspects of translation interaction between the German and Ukrainian medical terminological systems and their individual subsystems. "Medical Translation" is a practical discipline that includes studying the peculiarities of written translation of various types of texts in the medical field, mastering the technical principles of medical written translation, developing the terminological competence of the translator, acquiring skills and abilities to ensure the quality and accuracy of medical translation, and developing algorithms for editing medical translations.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Oral interviews during practical sessions (performing project translations, justifying translation decisions), compilation of a medical glossary/terminology database (presentation), intermediate written translation assessment, final assessment will be conducted.
Assessment methods and criteria
The assessment breakdown for the course is as follows: Oral interviews during practical sessions – maximum of 52 points. Compilation of a medical glossary/terminology database (presentation) – maximum of 8 points. Intermediate written translation assessment – maximum of 20 points. Final assessment (exam) – maximum of 20 points. The exam is conducted in the form of a written assignment with open-ended answers to both theoretical and practical questions. It consists of two tasks: a) Translation of a German-language professional text into Ukrainian, with a length of up to 2000 characters. b) Post-translation commentary and justification of translation decisions. Each task is evaluated with a maximum of 10 points, based on the criteria of completeness and quality of addressing the question.
