Learning outcomes
To acquaint students with the basic principles of using GIS technologies in cartographic production and to form appropriate practical skills of automated data processing for the creation of various cartographic works.
Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
1) Know the basic provisions of cartography (know such concepts as: topographic, general geographic and thematic maps, conventional signs, methods of cartographic representation, visual aids, generalization). Have modern ideas about the theory of creating topographic and thematic maps. 2) To have basic skills of working in geographic information systems, in particular, to be familiar with the process of vectorization, creation and editing of digital map layers.
Course content
Educational practice is one of the components of comprehensive preparation of the educational and professional program "Cartography, geographic information systems, remote sensing of the Earth". The ability to work with GIS is an important component of the professional competence of future specialists in cartography, GIS and GIS. The internship program provides for the performance of a number of tasks that will allow students to consolidate the knowledge gained during theoretical training and improve practical skills of working in the environment of geoinformation systems, in particular, to master the method of entering and processing information in GIS and creating cartographic images. Students of the third year of the specialty 103 of Earth Sciences of the bachelor's degree of education undergo educational practice in information technologies by specialty, without breaking away from theoretical studies, on the basis of the information and computing sector of the Faculty of Geography.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The level of achievement of all planned learning outcomes is determined by the results of practical work and report writing. The specific weight of learning results in the final assessment, provided that it is mastered at the appropriate level, is as follows: – learning outcomes – 1.1 – 1.4 (knowledge) – up to 20%; – learning results – 2.1 – 2.5 (skills) – up to 40% – learning outcomes – 3.1 (communications) – up to 20% - learning outcomes - 4.1 (autonomy and responsibility) - up to 20%.
Assessment methods and criteria
Knowledge control is carried out according to the modular rating system: work during classes in the computer class, report writing and the correctness of practical work are evaluated. The form of control is differentiated assessment. Fixation of the received rating in the form of grades in the relevant documents (testing and examination information and grading books) is carried out according to the 100-point system, followed by its conversion into a traditional grade on the national scale for recording in the relevant documents.
