Prerequisites and co-requisites
To know the theoretical foundations of mathematical statistics, mechanics, hydrodynamics, geophysics, mathematical modeling. Possess elementary skills of hydrological and water balance calculations, statistical processing of hydrological series. To have methods of synthesis and analysis of information.
Course content
The goal of the discipline is for students to acquire systematic ideas about natural and anthropogenic changes in water bodies that determine the risk or presence of economic and ecological damage, and the task is to develop effective systems of analysis, calculation and forecasting of the elements of the hydrological regime of land bodies in order to mitigate the consequences of dangerous hydrological situations. A master hydrologist must have a good understanding of the peculiarities of the formation of such situations, methods of their forecasting and prevention.
The educational discipline is devoted to the study of the theoretical and methodological foundations of natural and anthropogenic conditions for the formation of dangerous hydrological phenomena, the calculation and forecast of their main characteristics, the determination of economic and ecological losses from the passage of dangerous hydrological phenomena, the assessment of the risks of their formation in a certain region, the study of world practice regarding methods of forecasting and prevention of such phenomena.
The educational discipline "Dangerous hydrological phenomena" is a component of the comprehensive training of specialists of the educational and qualification level "master" of the educational program "Hydrology and integrated management of water resources" specialty 103 "Earth sciences".

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures, practical work, independent work, defenses of independently completed practical work, modular control work, test
Assessment methods and criteria
During the semester, after the completion of the relevant topics, thematic written control papers with open questions are conducted. Completion of tests for content modules and completion of all practical work is mandatory for credit. For students who scored a total of less points than the critical calculation minimum - 36 points, writing essays on insufficiently mastered topics is a mandatory condition for admission to the credit.
The maximum number of points for credit is 40 points, the minimum number of points added to semester credits is 24 points (60% of the maximum number of points allocated for credit). Students who, during the semester, scored a total of less points than the critical calculation minimum - 20 points are not allowed to pass the test. The recommended minimum for admission to the test is 36 points.
