Learning outcomes
PLO 4. Understand the fundamental principles of human, nature and society genesis. PLO 8. Know and understand the system of the Ancient Greek, Latin and a foreign language, the general properties of literature as the art of word, the history of the Ancient Greek and Latin languages, and literature, be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 11. Know the principles, technologies and techniques of oral and written texts of different genres and styles creation in Ukrainian, classical and a foreign language. PLO 13. Analyze and interpret works of the Ancient literature, determine their peculiarities and place in the literary process. PLO 22. Realize the role and place of classical languages and literatures in the context of the European linguistic and cultural space, in the strategies of the development of the contemporary academic paradigm and modern civilization.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1) successful mastery of the mandatory disciplines "History of Ancient Greek Literature", "History of Roman Literature", "History and Theory of Ancient Rhetoric", "Ancient Mythology and Modernity" and normative courses in classical languages; 2) knowledge of the system of Ancient Greek and Latin languages, stages of development of Ancient literature; 3) mastering the skills of analysis and interpretation of literary works, translation from Classical languages, analysis of language units.
Course content
The goal of the course is to highlight the history of formation of New Testament and patristic literature of the late antiquity era, to trace the embodiment of the dialogue between Classical European and Semitic linguistic cultures in the texts of the New Testament and early patristic literature. Within the scope of the discipline, the main stages of the development of early Christian and patristic literature of late antiquity, the context and formation of the canon of the New Testament, the formation of apocryphal biblical and early Christian literature in the light of the dialogue of cultures, the principles of reception of the ancient heritage in the texts of early patristics, the system of genres of patristic literature and its ancient and biblical origins. The discipline reveals the history of the formation of New Testament and patristic literature, forms an idea of the reception of ancient ideas, literary forms and rhetorical techniques in early Christian texts, analyzes cross-linguistic and cross-cultural interferences in Greek and Latin patristics of the 1st-4th centuries.

Assessment methods and criteria
The overall grade for the semester consists of points received for classroom work and for independent work. The final assessment is conducted in the form of an exam:the maximum number of points on the exam is 40 points, the minimum number of points (positive grade) that are added to the semester marks is 24 points (60% of the maximum number of points assigned to the exam); The exam is conducted in the form of a written work with open answers to two theoretical questions, each of which is evaluated with a maximum of 10 points, and one practical task, which is evaluated with a maximum of 20 points. The practical task involves morphological and syntactic analysis, historical and cultural commentary and translation of text fragments into Classical languages. A detailed description of the forms, criteria and organization of assessment is given in the working course program, published on the official website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.
