Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful mastering of the course requires basic knowledge of general linguistic terminology and terminological system; knowledge of the basics of modern English grammar; reading, writing, listening and speaking skills according to the Programme.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is the formation of students' English-language communicative competence as a set of knowledge, skills and abilities that provide effective intercultural communication in oral and written forms; the study of patterns and trends of the origin, functioning and development of the English language.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Teaching methods: practical classes, independent work. Forms of study: oral answer, presentation, audition, writing essays, letters, home reading, individual work, final test.
Assessment methods and criteria
Knowledge control is carried out by the ECTS system, which provides a two-level assessment of the mastered material, including assessment of theoretical training - learning outcomes (knowledge 1.1), which makes 40% of the total assessment, and assessment of practical training - learning outcomes (skills 2.1 - 2.2); (communication 3.1); (autonomy and responsibility 4.1), which makes 60% of the total score. The final form of assessment in the 1st term is the exam. The final score (minimum 60, maximum 100 points) is the sum of the points for the term work (minimum 36, maximum 60 points) and for the exam (minimum 24, maximum 40 points). The following learning outcomes (LO) are assessed during the exam: LO 1.1, LO 2.1-2.2; LO 3.1; LO 4.1.
