Learning outcomes
PLO 13. Analyze and interpret works of the Ancient literature, determine their peculiarities and place in the literary process. PLO 16. Know and understand the basic notions, theories and concepts of the chosen philological specialization, be able to apply them in professional activity. PLO 20. Know Greek and Latin substratum of the modern academic terminology, possess the knowledge of the metalanguage of the academic description and use it in the situations of professional communication. PLO 22. Realize the role and place of classical languages and literatures in the context of the European linguistic and cultural space, in the strategies of the development of the contemporary academic paradigm and modern civilization.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Knowledge of the disciplines: "Ancient Greek language", "Latin language", "History of ancient Greek literature", "History of Roman literature", "Ancient poetry", "Ancient rhetoric", "Ancient Greek hermeneutics", "Latin hermeneutics", " Old Slavic language", "Scientific and fiction literature in Ancient Greek dialects", "Classical languages as languages of philosophy in the European continuum", "Early Christian literature". To have basic skills: to identify and reveal cross-linguistic and cross-cultural relationships; to analyze the phenomena of linguistic and cultural interference; interpret ancient, Byzantine and Western European culture of the 9th-13th centuries. and the culture of Kyivan Rus.
Course content
The goal of the discipline is to get acquainted with the linguistic and cultural interference between Byzantium, Western Europe and Kyivan Rus; historical processes of cultural interaction between Greek-speaking Byzantium, Latin-speaking countries of Western Europe and Kyivan Rus, and features of the influence of Classical languages on the language and literature of Kyivan Rus. Abstract of the educational discipline - the educational discipline is devoted to the following main problems: Acquaintance with the linguistic and cultural influence of Byzantium in various areas of Old Russian life. Ancient Greek as the language of church and theological tradition in Kyivan Rus. The influence of the grammatical system of the Greek language on the Old Slavic language. Morphological and semantic features of Greekisms; tracing paper Ancient and Christian literature and the literature of Kyivan Rus. Byzantine and Old Russian book culture. Political, dynastic and cultural contacts of Kyivan Rus with the countries of Western Europe. Latin as the language of scientific tradition and terminology. Morphological and semantic features of Latinisms.

Assessment methods and criteria
Final assessment: a credit. The overall grade for the semester consists of the points received for work in the classroom (which also synthesizes independent work on the development of theoretical material for preparation for the classroom: answers to the frontal survey, performance of test tasks, report-analysis of scientific literature, speeches with abstracts or presentations). All types of work for the semester have as a result: - in the maximum dimension of 100 points, - a minimum of 60 points. A detailed description of the forms, criteria and organization of assessment is given in the working course program, published on the official website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.
