Learning outcomes
The knowledge of current level of study of the mineral resource base, the distribution of the most important mineral resources in the world, and the market situation for certain types of ores and mineral concentrates, to be able to analyze the relationship between geology and mineral resource quantity, identify prospects for increasing resources, and factors affecting their development, quality, and competitiveness in the global market.
Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
The theoretical foundations of mineralogy and the geology of mineral deposits should be known.
Course content
The information on global features and the distribution of different types of minerals, world tendencies in their extraction and use, changes in the world market of metals and ores are presented. The impact of such information on the definition of short- or medium-term plans for development of strategic plans for exploration and extraction, ore processing and identification of obvious and potential risks associated with the mining of known or new type deposits will be presented.
Recommended or required reading and other learning resources/tools
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures, seminars and independent work of the student
Assessment methods and criteria
The results of students' learning activities are evaluated on a scale of 100 points. The evaluation is carried out according to the accumulative system and provides: 2 tests, each of which is evaluated at 20 points (a minimum of 12 points). The 20 points (a minimum of 12 points) are allocated for work in seminars. The final assessment is an exam (maximum 40 points, marginal 24 points). During the exam, the student demonstrate knowledge related to the distribution of certain types of ore and non-ore minerals, the main geological types of their deposits, the current state of resources and reserves, qualitative characteristics of mining and processing, market conditions. The final grade is based on the results of the student's work over a period of semester, as the sum of points for systematic work in seminars, the results of tests and knowledge of lecture information, and points obtained during the exam.
