Learning outcomes
Know: main parameters of the zone of hypergenesis; features of application chemical thermodynamic methods at studying of hypergenic processes; mechanisms of biota influence on the conditions of migration chemical elements in the hypergenic zone; approaches to the classification of hypergenic conditions, processes and their products; characteristics of the leading weathering reactions. To be able: to predict the direction of hypergenic processes using the rule of product of solubility, thermodynamic functions and activity coefficients; perform calculations of carbonate equilibrium systems; evaluate the influence of abiotic factors that determine the acid-base balance and form the redox potential of hypergenic systems; apply methods of chemical thermodynamics to predict the forms of chemical elements in the zone of hypergenesis; determine the fields of mineral stability and predict mineral paragenesis using hydrochemical and corrosion models of the hypergenesis zone.
Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
Possession of basic knowledge in the field of general physics, mineralogy and petrography.
Course content
The object of study of the discipline are chemical elements and minerals in the hypergenic zone The subject are the factors that cause the destruction and formation of minerals, the migration of chemical elements and their compounds in the upper crust, on the Earth's surface, in the hydrosphere and atmosphere. The following topics are considered: boundaries and parameters of the hypergenic zone; basic principles and methods of geochemical study of hypergenic processes; geochemical role of organisms in hypergenic processes; geochemical conditions and geochemical barriers; hypergenesis processes and their products. The main tasks are to form an understanding of the possibilities and limitations of the application of modern research methods for the analysis of hypergenic processes and systems, to predict the stability of migratory forms of elements; understanding the role of the influence of biota on the course of hypergenic processes and the stability of hypergenic systems.

Assessment methods and criteria
Semester assessment: 1. Test work №1: max 15 / min 8 points. 2. Test work №2: - max 25 / min 13 points. Test work № 1 is carried out not earlier than 5 weeks of classes, and test work № 2 - not earlier than 8 weeks of classes. 3. Abstract (on a given topic of information retrieval): max 20 / min 11 points. Students receive personal assignments for writing an essay no later than 4 weeks before the end of the semester, the defense of essays takes place in the last lesson of the semester. Final evaluation: Written exam: two open-ended questions and a task. max 40 / min 24 points. Conditions for admission to the final exam: A student is not admitted to the exam if during the semester he scored less than 20 points, or did not complete at least one of the tests.
