PLO 2. To work with information effectively: to select necessary information from different sources, in particular from professional literature and electronic bases; to analyze and interpret it critically; to arrange it and make proper classification and systematization.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. to know: the history of the world and Ukrainian education (within the program of complete general secondary education);
2. to be able to: identify, analyze, and compare information of historical and cultural nature; analyze own abilities, inclinations, and interests;
3. have basic skills: processing a scientific text, systematizing the materials necessary for work, and effectively organizing their own learning activities.
Course content
The course introduces the basic principles, leading trends, and stages of development of higher education in Ukraine and the world. An analysis and objective assessment of the causes and historical background of the emergence of universities in the world is offered. The peculiarities of the influence of world university traditions on the formation of the Ukrainian educational system, the history of the formation of the Ukrainian system of university education, and the stages of creation and development of the KNU are characterized. The history of formation, main stages of development, and structure of philological / cultural science, as well as the history of relevant research at the KNU are outlined. Students will learn about the life, creative activity, and scientific heritage of prominent national philologists and cultural studies, the role and place of a philologist in modern society, the organization of the educational process, and the independent work of students at the university.

Learning activities during the semester:
Testing / express surveys.
Performing independent tasks: preparation of abstracts / presentations / essays.
Presentation / case project.
Module control test.
Assessment methods and criteria
The course includes 2 content modules (CM). All learning outcomes are assessed systematically throughout the semester, in accordance with the thematic plan of lectures. On the selected topic of the first module, students create an abstract / presentation (individual or group) / essay and make a presentation at a lecture session (approximately by October 15). Within the second module, students create a presentation / case project / essay (the form of control is determined by the teacher of a particular lecture stream) approximately by November 30. At the end of each module, module tests (MCT) with test tasks and open questions are conducted; the points for the MCT are added to the sum of points for the CM. The sum of points for both CMs is calculated on the principle of accumulation: maximum 100 points, minimum 60 points.
