Course content
"Fundamentals of Glycobiology" is an integral science that examines the main classes of carbohydrates, glycans, sialic acids, hyaluronates and carbohydrate-bound molecules. The structure of the main classes of the above-mentioned molecules is described, the main metabolic processes associated with glycans and carbohydrate-bound molecules, as well as their derivatives, are characterized, and the mechanisms of the development of pathologies that result from impaired synthesis or degradation are considered. This discipline highlights methods for diagnosing these diseases, protocols for their diagnosis and treatment. Demonstrates an analysis of modern challenges in science aimed at improving the diagnosis and treatment of congenital glycosylation diseases. Despite the fact that glycan molecules have a very complex structure and are still very difficult to synthesize and reproduce, this new field of research inspires great hopes for future results. The interaction of biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, genetic engineering, microbiology, chemistry and chemical technology in the field of problematic issues of carbohydrate biochemistry leads to the creation of new means of diagnosis, prevention and treatment of the most common human diseases. The development of carbohydrate biochemistry is associated with the solution of one of the global problems of humanity - improving the state of health care and extending life expectancy.
