Course content
Molecular physiology combines molecular biology and molecular biophysics with an understanding of how physiological processes occur at the molecular, cellular, and systems levels. Molecular physiology is an interdisciplinary field that studies the functions and mechanisms of living systems, from single cells to whole organisms, with a focus on the molecular level. The discipline seeks to explain physiological processes (such as cell signaling, muscle contraction, or nutrient transport) through the detailed study of key molecules such as proteins (including receptors, ion channels, and enzymes), lipids, nucleic acids as the genetic basis for the regulation of physiological responses, signaling molecules, and in particular, systems of second intracellular mediators.
