Course content
Laboratory practice is a basic educational discipline aimed at developing students' practical skills in classical histological techniques. During the training, students master methods for preparing permanent histological preparations, which is a necessary prerequisite for their qualitative analysis and interpretation. Permanent histological preparations are widely used in the educational process, fundamental and applied scientific research, as well as in the clinical practice of specialists in the medical and biological field. Histological research methods are an important tool for studying the morphological organization and functional state of cells and tissues of humans, animals and plants both in normal and pathological conditions or under experimental modeling conditions. During laboratory classes, students master methodological techniques for analyzing the functional state of organs and tissues to identify their cellular and tissue composition at the macro- and microscopic levels. Morphometric analysis is the process of obtaining quantitative and/or qualitative information from cytological, histological and macroscopic specimens. The task of analytical and quantitative morphology is to develop and apply methods for quantitative and qualitative analysis of various structures of a living organism (cells, subcellular structures, tissues, organs, etc.) used in biological morphometric studies, as well as the patterns of changes in morphometric parameters in various morpho-functional states of a living system under various conditions in normal and pathological conditions. Among the methods studied are planimetric and stereometric methods, including work with computer morphometric programs, methods of three-dimensional reconstruction and confocal microscopy, image analysis, and also features of statistical analysis of the results of morphometric studies.
