Course content
This course aims to develop well-educated professionals who are ethically competent and morally committed to performing their professional duties conscientiously, thoughtfully, and with ethical consideration. It defines the scope of professional and corporate ethics, their place within the structure of ethical knowledge, the characteristics of ethical regulation of professional practice, and the ethical dimensions of professionalism. It clarifies the mission and structure of the ethical infrastructure as a tool for managing values in professional and corporate activities, as well as the models and functions of ethics departments and ethical documents—in particular, the code of ethics—and addresses ethical monitoring and ethical auditing as mechanisms for overseeing ethical conduct. The foundations of corporate culture and the moral standards governing an organization’s activities are examined. The ethical foundations of engineering practice, codes of ethics in the engineering profession, and ethical dilemmas in the engineering profession are identified. The value foundations of scientific activity within a sociocultural context, the value-normative foundations of a scientist’s work, the ethical dimensions of the relationship between ethics and technology, and the specific aspects of social responsibility in science are explored.

Assessment is conducted according to the ECTS system, which provides for a two-tier evaluation of the material covered, specifically an evaluation of theoretical training—learning outcomes, which account for 30% of the overall grade—and an evaluation of practical training—learning outcomes, which account for 70% of the overall grade. The semester credit total is composed of the credits earned by the student while mastering the material in both parts and completing independent assignments. A passing grade is awarded based on the student’s performance throughout the entire semester. Thus, the final grade consists of the sum of the semester credit total and the final exam score.
