Learning outcomes
Know: the basic concepts and terminology of theoretical petroacoustics; the classification of methods and the parameters they measure; procedures for working with laboratory equipment; the stages of laboratory studies for determining the petroacoustic characteristics of sedimentary rocks; the principles of processing and geological interpretation of petroacoustic data. Be able to: measure, process, and describe the results of petroacoustic observations and explain their relationship to other petrophysical parameters; apply acoustic parameters of rocks to analyze natural processes and lithological composition.
Form of study

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of geophysical methods, particularly petrophysics. 2. Basic computer skills. 3. Skills in mathematical statistics.
Course content
A study of the acoustic and elastic properties of rocks and methods for determining them. The acoustic parameters of various lithological groups are examined. The relationships between acoustic and other petrophysical characteristics of rocks are explained using real-world examples. The areas of application of petroacoustics are characterized by interpretation results. The discussion includes methods for studying acoustic anisotropy and determining the structure of pore space based on acoustic and capacitance data.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures and practical sessions, as well as independent study by students.
Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment is conducted using a modular-rating system and includes: the completion of two practical assignments (in which students must demonstrate the quality of their acquired knowledge and solve assigned problems using the methods and tools specified by the instructor), one term paper, and one written exam. The final assessment takes the form of an oral exam.
